About Engineering My Exit
Hi, I'm Adam.
I'm a software engineer with a young family, and I'm working on making my job optional.
Not by selling off investments a slice at a time, the way retirement is usually planned, but by building enough dividend income that the bills get paid whether or not I go to work. My runway is long enough that a withdrawal rate never felt safe to me, so I'm building cash flow instead.
It started when I realized I was giving up the years my kid is small for a job I was doing because I had to. I decided that if I keep working, it should be a choice.
What you'll find here
Milestones: each time dividends cover a bigger share of our spending, I'll write about how it happened.
The reasoning: why I hold what I hold, including the controversial picks, and the tradeoffs I'm accepting.
The mistakes: what didn't work, and what I'd change.
Real numbers: percentages, coverage ratios, and allocations, kept anonymous but honest. Adam Foster is a pen name; I write anonymously so I can share real numbers. Everything else here is real.
Not financial advice
I'm not a financial advisor. This is my personal journey and what works for my situation, not a recommendation for yours. Do your own research.
